• In his first post-Repentance Lore Stream, Edmund McMillen revealed that the wooden spoon is inspired by the fact that during his childhood his parents would threaten to beat him with a wooden spoon.
• The Wooden Spoon granting a speed up is a nod to the act of running faster to try and escape the abuse.
• In this way, the Wooden Spoon is a counterpart to The Belt, which is also a speed-up item based on a specific object used by McMillen's parents to abuse him. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
