Card Reading is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

• Fittingly, this item's sprite is a combination of IV - The Emperor and XVII - The Stars.
• This item may be a reference to the portals in the videogame Wizard of Legend, where four portals appear after clearing the boss room, that teleport you to important locations (shops or the start point) depending on their color (red, green, purple, and turquoise).
• The subtext "A link to your future" is very likely a reference to the game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past.
• Card Reading is twice as unlikely to appear as most other Shop items, and is the only Shop item which acts this way that cannot be obtained from a different item pool.

Bug! In the first floor of a Victory Lap, the portals will appear but cannot be entered. It will work again from floor 2. Bug! Entering one of the portals causes the Found Soul familiar to become invisible until Isaac drops and picks up the trinket again or enters a new floor. Bug! Using a portal, then rewinding time with the Glowing Hourglass will not cause the portals to reappear. Bug! Portals may on rare occasion appear in Death Certificate rooms, even under item pedestals.
